‘Foundations for the Future’ project
Swanage Pier, used by strollers, divers, watersports enthusiasts and boat trippers, was in need of significant structural repair. The Pier Trust and its Chief Executive contacted H&L for assistance in securing major funding to repair the pier, improve facilities for visitors and establish greater long-term financial sustainability.
H&L assisted the Pier Trust with a successful HLF ‘Our Heritage’ application for storm damage repairs and helped with the successful HLF round 1 bid for the ‘Foundations for the Future’ project securing a development grant of £88,000 and a round 1 pass for an HLF grant of £806,000.
H&L provided project management services for the round 2 bid. The HLF round 2 bid and Coastal Communities Fund bid were both successful with a total of £2.2m secured by June 2017 from these funders and a variety of other sources to enable the project to proceed.
Work commenced on site in early 2018 with the structural works to the Pier and the renovation of Marine Villas, the Pier works were completed and Marine Villas opened in summer 2018. See www.swanagepiertrust.com
