Bridport Arts Centre’s
building is currently failing: heating and theatre lighting are not fit for purpose, physical access is limited and the general
aspect of the building is shabby. Research has shown occasional and potential audiences are adversely affected by its lack
of comfort and 21st century appeal.
Delivery of a refurbished Arts Centre has therefore become an increasingly urgent goal over the last 5 years and
is the current focus of this strategic plan. However, this is not simply a response to a practical necessity: refurbishment
is combined with re-orientation of the building to bring about opportunities for very visibly showcasing artists’ work
on the forecourt and façade, and creating a new, dedicated Education and Learning room for the first time within the
Arts Centre.
